Name: Christopher Cardenas

Location: Long Beach, California, USA

Years with Securitas:

- Security guard 2021 - present

My current role: Security guard, in a high-rise building. My role involves diverse responsibilities. I greet all incoming and outgoing tenants, clients, and visitors, escort deliveries to the proper floors, and patrol the property to monitor for any damage, vandalism, or potential trespassers. Additionally, I remain vigilant for any suspicious activity or loitering near the premises.

Topics studied and where: My visit took place in Charlotte, North Carolina, and focused on technology solutions, security operations, remote guarding, the Securitas Operations Center (SOC), the National Communications Center, and mobile services.

Why did you apply for the scholarship?

I applied for the scholarship because I want to advance my career in the field of security with Securitas. By getting further education and exposure to other aspects of security, my goal was to deepen my understanding of security operations, enhance my skills, and broaden my career opportunities within Securitas.

What did you learn/gain from the study visit?

From the SOC session, I gained good insights into various aspects of security management and operations at Securitas. I learned about security protocols, risk assessments, incident response procedures, and the latest technologies that we use in security surveillance and monitoring. I also gained a clearer understanding of the importance of collaboration and communication among security personnel to ensure the safety and security of the organization and our clients.

How will you share this knowledge/experience with your organization?

I plan to share the knowledge and experience that I gained from my visit in several ways: organizing training sessions for our officers to clarify roles and enhance effectiveness, and creating a document summarizing key takeaways and technology recommendations, focusing on integrated guarding. In addition, I will share insights in meetings on how local business matters can affect national or global accounts, emphasizing the importance of collaboration.
